Trump must stow $500M cash in a bank to cover the appeal bond for his NY fraud case, experts say. His next appeal bond will cost him far more. By posting another appeal bond. Similar to the more familiar jail bond, an appeal bond is a promise of payment that's backed by collateral, meaning cash or property. The premium on a half-billion-dollar appeal bond could run anywhere from $250,000 to north of one million dollars, just to purchase the bond, experts guestimated.

The Unmaking of the Republican Majority

Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, arrives for a meeting at the Capitol in Washington, Oct. 18. Photo: Jose Luis Magana/Associated PressThe Republican calamity continues. Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan hasn’t yet persuaded, cajoled, enticed or threatened his way to 217 votes. It will be ironic if Mr. Jordan wins: The founder of the House GOP’s Freedom Caucus must then become the unifier in chief. He would find quickly that making demands in Washington has limits—as does anyone stuck with the speaker’s job.

The Pentagon has provided Patriot air defense systems and cajoled allies to provide S-300 air defense ammunition, both of which have proven effective. It has also provided other air defenses like the Avenger system and the Hawk air defense system. But Ukraine does not have enough air defense systems to cover the entire country, and must pick the sites it defends. Today, Russian officials have remade their economy to focus on defense production. As a result, military production has not only recovered but surged.

Tough Times for Men’s Wear? Designers Find a Workaround

You’ve maxed out your credit cards, asked your family for loans, begged vendors for favors, cajoled friends into sacrificing salaries to model for a day, and then suddenly it is New York Fashion Week and, with it, New York Men’s Day, the only chance some men’s wear designers will have to be seen. “What else could we do?” said Erin Hawker, the indefatigable publicist who first envisioned New York Men’s Day a decade ago. “We staged a peaceful protest on the sidewalk.”It’s Sinatra 101. What you also require, as it turns out, is Gandhian tactics and nerves of steel. The city backed off for a few hours, and 10 designers were briefly given their chance.

On Thursday, 42-year-old Pita Limjaroenrat failed in his initial bid to win the premiership after he was unable to secure enough votes in a joint sitting of Thailand's 750-member parliament. Another vote is expected to be held next week, which Pita can contest if nominated again. But Pita and Move Forward's agenda - particularly a once-unthinkable proposal to amend Thailand's "lese majeste" law - also pit them against the country's powerful conservative establishment, which controls the 250-member appointed senate. First, Thailand's election commission recommended the Constitutional Court disqualify Pita as a lawmaker because of his ownership of shares in a media company in violation of electoral rules. Some of those protesters - and some of those demands - were part of Move Forward's electoral juggernaut, including a call to amend the lese majeste law.

They Know the Blessing and Curse of Warhol and Basquiat

Using her bare breasts as paintbrushes, Berlin, beginning in the ’70s, made “tit prints,” in which her pigment-laden aureoles produced forms that resemble balloons and angelfish. Even more scandalous are three of the chapbooks in which she kept drawings she cajoled artists into making of their penises. She was making the ‘tit prints’ without thinking of burning her bra. What really matters is what is in the work.”Like Powell, Berlin in many of her Polaroids documented the Warhol entourage. The show concludes with homages to Berlin made by artists today, including Francesco Clemente, Jenna Gribbon and Jane Kaplowitz.

Powell is leader of the free world – for now

As former President Donald Trump will attest, Powell will do what he thinks it’s right. This month, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, a left-wing firebrand, went on TV and called Powell a “dangerous man,” saying she doesn’t think that he should be Fed Chair. CNN television host Jake Tapper asked her if she had told Biden that Powell should be fired. Then Trump called Powell “a golfer who can’t putt, has no touch.” Trump wanted economic growth. Powell resisted and later responded saying that the Fed chair, more than anyone else, needs to be free from political pressures.
Interim Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has agreed to testify in front of Sen. Bernie Sanders' committee. Sanders chairs the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee (HELP), and wanted to subpoena Schultz to testify. Now, Schultz has agreed to testify on March 29 about the firm's alleged anti-union activities. Ahead of that vote — which was scheduled for Wednesday — Sanders said that Schultz has "finally agreed to testify." Sanders also thanked the members of his committee, "who, in a bi-partisan way, were prepared" to vote to subpoena Schultz.
Film student Lizza Prigozhina helps NYC real-estate agents market homes on TikTok, Curbed reported. A "good month," she told Curbed writer Bridget Read, means up to $10,000 in income. It's all in the name of helping real-estate agents capture eyeballs on TikTok, which they can hopefully turn into potential buyers and renters who actually pay them in commission. "Some are like, 'I can't spend money on this,'" Prigozhina told Curbed. "Alexander has a big personality," Prigozhina told Curbed.
“I call our ducks the soldiers of our vineyards,” says managing director Corius Visser. The duck troops are cajoled on a 14-day circuit through the vineyard, eating and fertilizing the ground as they go. The winery's Indian runner ducks patrol for pests in the vineyard. Rodger Bosch/AFP/Getty ImagesAs a pioneering winemaker with industry clout – vines have being grown on the estate since the late 17th century – Vergenoegd Löw is hoping to convince others to adopt its approach. “We can be in a position where we say that we have (not just) the best runner ducks in South Africa, but also the world,” Visser argues.
